Mischief Under $5,000 is a Canadian criminal offence that involves damaging, destroying, or interfering with someone else’s property without their permission. It is generally considered a less serious offence than more serious offences such as theft, assault, or aggravated assault. The maximum penalty for Mischief Under $5,000 is two years less a day in jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000.

- If the Crown proceeds by summary conviction: the maximum punishment is a fine of not more than $5,000 or a term of imprisonment of not more than two years less a day, or both.
- If the Crown proceeds by indictment: the maximum punishment is a term of imprisonment not exceeding two years.
